What do you think has the biggest impact on your relationship with food? It might not be your first guess… Your thoughts and beliefs is the correct answer. In order for you to change your relationship with food, you need to change your beliefs about it first. And in order to change your beliefs, the first step is to become aware of them.
If you think back and remember all of those statements you have made about food, you just might have a little ‘aha’ moment.
Did you ever say this or something similar:
-“I can’t live without sugar.”
-“I can’t stop eating, it’s beyond my control.”
-“I just can’t resist chocolate.”
-“Healthy food doesn’t taste good.”
When you are saying things like this, you start to really believe it, and your brain accepts this as your truth, which makes it your reality. The good news is that it is reversible. You can actually change this yourself.
And you can’t tell to yourself “I really love sugar but I’ll stop eating it tomorrow.” Your beliefs are subconscious. And the subconscious mind always wins over the conscious mind.
Because your mind believes what you tell it, you can just start saying different statements. Yes, it is that simple. All you need to do is to become aware of the times when you are saying these negative statements to yourself and replace them with the opposite statements. Your mind will believe what you tell it.
For example, you can say to yourself:
-“Nothing tastes as good as being healthy and fit feels.”
-“I am so grateful to be choosing food that supports my best health.”
-“Planning healthy meals is a joy.”
-“I choose to eat foods I know are healthy.”
When you change your beliefs – you change your feelings. And your feelings change your thinking, which changes your behavior. So, if you want to change your behavior, start by changing your beliefs.
