What is your morning routine? What are your rituals in the morning? Whether you are acknowledging it or not you do have a morning routine. Everybody does.
There are certain things that you do in the morning, usually in the same or similar order. And people randomly deviate from their morning habits on the same days of the week. If one of your morning rituals is to watch 10 minutes of news before you go to work, and for some reason you were not able to do this one of the mornings, you feel like you are lacking something, you were robbed of something that belongs to you.
Some people are saying they are Morning people, and some are saying they are not. On top of being irritated as it is the morning, Non-Morning people are being driven crazy by the positivity of the Morning people. And I have felt it on my own skin after transforming and becoming one of the Morning people. 🙂
I used to hate mornings! Everything before 11 am, in my mind, did not exist. Don’t get me wrong, I did get up early to go to work, but I absolutely hated it. My motto was: “Don’t talk to me before I’ve had my coffee. And don’t talk to me after that either.” 🙂
My morning started with a cup of coffee and one to two cigarettes. Only after that, I fully opened my eyes and continued with the day. After the shower I would have another cup of coffee with a cigarette. And after I got dressed and ready for work I would have one more cup of coffee with another cigarette. From the moment I woke up, I was constantly thinking that I hate mornings, everything sucked, and so on…:)
I have considered myself a night person, an owl, that I’m energetic at night and that I was drained out of energy in the morning. That was my excuse for hating mornings.
Not too many positive thoughts crossed my mind before 11 am, unless the morning was cancelled…:)
I’m proud to say that I was able to transform a Morning Hater into a Morning Person. 🙂 If someone would tell me a few years back that I would become one of those smiling, cheerful, disgusting morning people, I would tell them they are crazy. 🙂 But apparently, it is possible to do, and it is much easier than you think.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that your morning routine is what sets the tone for the day. It is a main deciding factor of what your day is going to be like. If you are irritated in the morning, you find something to be irritated about during the day and night as well.
On the other hand, if you are grateful and happy in the morning, that is how your day flows, for the most part. ( of course there are always exceptions)
I have mentioned my old morning routine above. Let me tell you about my current morning routine.
I wake up early in the morning, at 5 am. (Old me would spit the New me in the face 🙂 ) First thing I do is the breathing exercise, 10 sets. That gives me energy and brings me in a balanced state, or so I call it.
Second, I make a green drink, instead of coffee. Green drink is a powder of super green vegetables and nutrients that we don’t consume regularly, even if we have the right diet. Besides getting the proper nutrients, it provides me with good energy and endurance.
I will skip the bathroom rituals and fast forward to exercise routine. 🙂 I exercise Monday through Friday before I go to work. And it gives me a great sense of accomplishment and energy as well. (I have written about exercising in the previous articles) Ans it sets a tone for a productive day.
During my morning exercise I have a ritual of learning something new. So I listen or watch something that develops me. Besides the obvious benefits, it feels good, and it gives me a sense of accomplishment and growth.
And I always end my exercise routine with a gratitude exercise. I run, in my head, through all of the things I’m grateful for. I am doing it in my head now, but to start with I had to write those things down, as it wasn’t easy for me to practice gratitude before. Always remember that whatever you focus on becomes your reality.
As I’m driving to work – I’m smiling and unfortunately, irritate a lot of people in the nearby cars. 🙂 And I really want to explain to these people that I used to be one of them not too long go, and that they too can be smiling now if they only changed a few things in their morning routine.
So now, let’s go back to the original question: What is your morning routine? You need to analyze your morning rituals and decide what is benefiting you and what is damaging you. Get rid of your damaging rituals and acquire new useful rituals, routine that works for you.
You are in charge of your life, it can be great or it can be miserable. Start by setting your day for success!
