Do you want to know how to not get upset when you weigh yourself? Well, here it is – Do Not Weigh Yourself! This is my opinion.
Oftentimes, your scale shows a higher number than usual, or not showing that you actually lost weight because you possibly drank more water than usual, or it might be just that time of the month (ladies 🙂 )… But what happens when you see that number? You start freaking out, become frustrated, and end up getting discouraged. And you might even abandon your healthy habits due to this.
Do not allow the numbers on your scales or in your clothes to determine how you feel about yourself. Too many of us attach our sense of self-worth to our weight, shape, and size.
Our diet culture and obsession with weight loss have normalized an unrealistic body image. Looking at fake images of perfection on social media fuels the idea that we need to look a certain way to be attractive, to matter…
We end up in a vicious cycle of starving ourselves, punishing our bodies for not looking like the airbrushed images we see everywhere, and then we feel like we’ve failed when we step on the scales and don’t see the weight loss we hoped for.
Without even realizing what’s going on, we start to comfort eat. Our emotions drive our eating habits: we overeat, then feel bad about ourselves, and then the cycle starts all over again.
The good news is that all of this emotional eating is a learned behavior, which means you can unlearn this behavior.
