Do you hate exercise?

Do you hate exercise?

Several clients of mine had a similar story. They were struggling with carrying extra weight, which felt like wearing a heavy jacket or a backpack at all times, according to them. We have talked about several areas of their life prior to us getting to the subject of exercising. Once I asked them about it, they had almost identical answers, which was: “I don’t exercise! I hate it!”

Apparently, quite a few people avoid physical activity because they told themselves that they hate exercising. Oftentimes I talk about limiting beliefs, which would be very relevant to discuss here, but for the sake of this conversation, I will stick to the original subject matter, which is exercising. One of the biggest myths about working out that people, who don’t work out, have is that they will have to start running. And they are absolutely terrified of that.

But to implement a fitness routine in your life does not mean that you have to start running outside or on a treadmill, exercise on an elliptical or start lifting weights. You can find something that you love, regardless of your age or physical state. Everyone can find something that suits them and their lifestyle. Of course, I am not referring to people who chose a couch and TV to be their lifestyle and do not want to change anything. I am referring to people who want change in their lives, who want to become healthier and happier and enjoy life to the fullest.

You can start at your own pace and choose whatever will work for you. There are so many forms of exercising besides the obvious ones, such as walking, dancing, biking, playing tennis or any other sports, swimming, yoga, hiking, climbing, taking the stairs, playing your favorite childhood game; and even activities like cleaning your house and doing the yard work are also forms of exercising. Do you think you can choose one or two from the list above? 🙂

Make a little bit of progress each day and stay motivated. But don’t wait to feel confident and ready before you start working out. Be willing to do it and don’t worry about how it’s going to come out, or what you will look like, or how fast you will achieve results, and so on. You will pleasantly surprise yourself, trust me.

Don’t make it more complicated than it needs to be. Do what you can. If you are putting it off, waiting for the right time – the timing will never be perfect. Just start today and imagine how happy you will be one year from now that you did.
